Don Conroy and Award winning Author Aga Grandowicz join Protect Our Planet Weekend August 24 & 25

Following the enormous success of the June event, we have teamed up Dublin Zoo again announce an exciting weekend of activities to help inspire families to protect our planet. We are also delighted to announce the addition of the much-loved Don Conroy and award-winning art director and author Aga Grandowicz to the weekend’s line-up.

Don who has been described as a “national treasure” is a hugely popular writer, artist, environmentalist and TV presenter possibly best known for his time on RTÉ’s ‘The Den’. Over the weekend Don will reprise his famous ‘Draw with Don’ segment, using it to educate young and old alike on the importance of conservation. Aga is co-author of Dr Hibernica Finch's Compelling Compendium of Irish Animals, a book she co-created through her passion for bio-diversity and woodland animals. Aga will host a number of readings and drawing workshops aimed at helping younger readers understand environmental themes like sustainability and biodiversity.

Back by popular demand will be the mini worm excavation, the ‘Bug Hotel’, and a tour of SSE Airtricity’s Eco Explorer Trail with Eco Ranger Rob. There will also be lots of face-painting opportunities as well as games on the Great Lawn for all the family to enjoy. The Arts & Crafts workshop area will be expanded, with plenty of fun for little ones and a Wild Welcoming Garden area where they will learn about the power of bees and the importance of biodiversity.

Visitors to the Protect Our Planet Weekend can become ‘Eco Explorers’ with the help of SSE Airtricity’s interactive Eco Explorer smartphone app. The app contains helpful hints and information for all Dublin Zoo visitors on how they can live greener and help protect our planet. Eco Explorer Passports will also be available, and those who fill in the passports by collecting all the badges along the trail will be able to collect an Eco Explorer prize upon completion.
